Vegan food is all over the place now and everyone is hunting it down. Welcome to this edition of #VeganEats where we will be talking about The Village Diner!
Winnipeg is home to many small, hometown style restaurants and The Village Diner is no exception. Originally in Winnipeg's famous Osbourne Village, The Village Diner is now situated near hipster central - the University of Winnipeg - it's only a few minutes away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Winnipeg!
Now I should note that The Village Diner isn't completely vegan. It is vegan friendly. With a vegan option available in almost every category on the menu, there is something for everyone. I would highly recommend it for some good eats with non-vegan friends who are picky about vegan restaurants. Another awesome feature is their very own microgreen farm! Which you can see right from the dining room, take a peek at, and most of their dishes feature some type of green from it.
Let's go through the vegan menu!
They do have a vegan breakfast dish, akin to their more popular counterpart - Stella's - the vegan breakfast is very much mexi-style with tortillas, tomatoes, avocado, and hashbrowns. The highlight of this dish, and others, is their lentil gravy. I mean, this will blow your mind.
Now they do have salads that are on the menu that can be made vegan - the Cucumber Cultivator (sans poached egg), and the Beet and Pea Shoot Salad (sans feta cheese). Some like salads, I'd rather have a burger.
Speaking of burgers... They only currently have 1 vegan burger on the menu but it does not disappoint! Topped with avocado, spinach, and the best sauce you will ever taste (better than mac sauce, for sure). You will be happy. Be sure to mention you are vegan as the bun it normally comes on isn't, they will happily switch it out for you.

They currently have two vegan fry options on the menu. The new Fries Supreme, which I have not had yet, and their vegan poutine. That vegan poutine has brought me back time and time again. I guarantee I will order this every time and so will you. It's topped with their lentil gravy, avocado, bell peppers, and microgreens. I highly recommend you ask if they have any fresh dill and get that instead of the microgreens because it takes the entire dish to a whole new level.

I would definitely recommend The Village Diner!
